O filme conta com o brilhante diretor Clint Eastwood , que dirigiu filmes como AMandela (6) conquista da Honrra (2006), Menina de ouro (2004) e Sobre meninos e lobos (2003), Invictus tem roteiro de Anthony Peckham e basea-se em um livro de John Carlin.
A história do longa conta que recentemente eleito presidente, Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) tinha consciência que a África do Sul continuava sendo um país racista e economicamente dividido, em decorrência do apartheid. A proximidade da Copa do Mundo de Rúgbi, ela resolvesse usar o esporte para unir a população. Para tanto chama para uma reunião Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon), capitão da equipe sul-africano, e o incentiva para que a selação nacional seja campeã.

Curiosidades sobre o filme.ndela já foi ouvido dizendo trechos deste poema;
- Morgan Freeman e a produtora Lori McCreary durante anos tentaram realizar um film sua autobiografia "Long Walk to Freedom". Entretanto, como a história se passava ao longo de várias décadas, seria impossível adaptá-la em um filme;
